1971 VFLR Season

These are the results for the 1971 season of the Victorian Football League Reserves (currently known as the Australian Football League Reserves).

It featured twenty-two rounds in a double round-robin format. It should also be noted that Fitzroy forfeited 4 matches (16 premiership points) due to fielding an unregistered player against Footscray, Geelong, St Kilda and Sydney. It is presumed that the matches were those from rounds 6, 7, 8 and 9, though this is yet to be confirmed. Richmond Reserves were the minor premiers.

The season ended with a finals series following the Page-McIntyre system. Richmond Reserves were the premiers, with Verdun Howell as the premiership coach.
