1979 VFL Season

These are the results for the 1979 season of the Victorian Football League (currently known as the Australian Football League).

It featured twenty-two rounds in a double round-robin format. It should be noted that teams did not necessarily play their matches following the same order as the nominal round numbers of those matches this season. Carlton were the minor premiers.

The season ended with a finals series following the McIntyre Final Five system. Carlton were the premiers, with Alex Jesaulenko as the premiership captain-coach.
